International
Students

Immanuel Christian School provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students. We offer our services as a Christian school to families who meet our enrolment criteria in every way but are not New Zealand citizens or holders of a New Zealand work permit.

The Distinctive Immanuel Experience for International Students

International students relish the opportunities provided at Immanuel to enjoy the clean, green New Zealand outdoors. Our school is safe – it is fully fenced and all belongings are secure onsite. Our students are friendly, trustworthy and of good character. International students that have enrolled at our school have had good things to report about their experiences at our school. Students attending our school participate in a whole vibrant community. International students become good friends with our kiwi young people at Immanuel and these friendships become a hugely positive influence on their lives. Our teaching programmes are centred around the needs of the individual student and cater to the usual variety of learning styles.

English as a Second Language

Immanuel Christian School enrols international students who speak English well enough to be able to participate in most conversations amongst their age-group. Where there is a need for ESOL classes we can provide these.

Signatories to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students

Immanuel Christian School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/providers-partners/education-code-of-practice/ or from http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2016/0057/latest/DLM6748147.html and can be downloaded from there.

In 2015, we (Samuel and Maranatha) from Indonesia, sent our child, Voice Excelsis, to enter Year 10 in Immanuel Christian School as a continuation of his previous education in Singapore. We chose this school through some internet browsing. It turned out that our child is getting a good education and pastoral care that is beyond our expectation. We feel that Voice has grown in his knowledge and spiritually in God. He is involved in a lot of activities such as sports, music (playing instruments), and drama. We are at ease with the quiet school environment.

Immanuel Christian School and Jireh School will merge for the start of 2018

In January 2018 Immanuel Christian School is joining forces with Jireh School and the combined school will be known as Jireh School.  We believe that the two schools combined will be produce significantly better outcomes than both schools would if they continued operating separately.  Immanuel and Jireh currently enjoy very similar values and pursue very similar goals.  The new Jireh School for 2018 will be a Year 1 to 8 school and it will be located on the current campus of Immanuel Christian School at 63 St Georges Rd, Avondale.   Jireh School is a government integrated school with attendance dues significantly lower than the fees currently charged by Immanuel Christian School.

People interested in enrolling for 2018 need to be aware that Immanuel Christian School will not exist in its current form after the end of 2017.  If you want to enrol for 2018 please enrol in Jireh School.  However, you are very welcome to come in and look at our campus.  You can find out more about Jireh School by visiting their website http://www.jireh.school.nz/

Enrolment Process
1. Call or email the school and make an appointment to meet the Principal and view the school.
2. Fill out an enrolment form and send it to the school. Alternatively, complete our online enrolment application by visiting
www.immanuel.school.nz
3. The Board of Trustees will then consider the application and two members of the Board will visit to conduct an interview.
4. The Board of Trustees then accepts or rejects the enrolment application and informs the applicants by phone.
5. If the enrolment is accepted, a contract must be signed, a payment plan must be explained and a $500 deposit must be paid to the school to secure the place. This deposit is credited against the first term’s tuition fees.
6. Prior to starting school some diagnostic tests might be carried out and then a starting date is agreed upon.

From $10,000.00 per annum.

Rationale

International Student fees must be handled in a way that ensures those funds are accessed in a way that is consistent with normal accounting practice. This means that those funds are secure from misappropriation and are only made available to the school in accord with the Refunds Policy or should the school not be able to continue tuition.

Purpose

  1. To ensure that if in the event that the school is unable to continue to run a course or programme that the unspent portion of the fees are available to be returned to the student.
  2. To ensure that funds from international students are accounted for separately and in such a way that individual student contributions can be protected and monitored.
  3. To ensure that international students’ payment may be drawn down in accord with the Refund Policy.

Guidelines

  1. Accounting procedures are in place to ensure that monies are available for release.
  2. International fees shall be paid into The Christian Schools’ Association of Avondale account – marked as a separate entry.
These monies will be available for approved refunds resulting from withdrawal from Immanuel Christian School, or in the event of the School / College not being able to provide tuition.

Evidence

  1. Accounting records including the annual audit of school accounts
  2. General Account of The Christian Schools’ Association of Avondale

Evaluation

The Executive Officer shall report to the Board of Trustees annually with reference to the effectiveness of the policy.
